Trixx’s Top 25 Hip Hop Albums Of 2014

5. Run The Jewels – Run The Jewels 2

Run The Jewels 2

No, I’m sorry this album did not make it to number 1. It’s an awesome album, just not my favorite this year. So far, I’ve liked both Mike and El’s solo albums in this new era of their careers than the two Run The Jewels albums. I think what set this one back for me was because I found the two lead singles weak. I’m not a fan “Blockbuster Night Pt. 1” and “Oh My Darling Don’t Cry” is better but it’s still not that great. I really do love all the other songs on here, especially “Early”, “Jeopardy” and “Crown”. These guys really can’t do any wrong and I love it in a selfish way because I love them giving me this music but I’m also so happy to see these two succeed at this mainstream of a level. Oh, and Mike’s verse on “All Due Respect” is probably the best of the year.

4. Kevin Abstract – MTV1987

So my favorite new artist of 2014 has ended up being Kevin Abstract. He really delivered with this new album. I sung “Tame Cab” every day this summer and when I moved on from that, I sang “Camp Green Lake”. Oh, and before both of those, “Drugs” couldn’t leave my head. Really, there isn’t a bad song on this album. It’s filled with awesome vibes and pretty damn incredible music. I can’t wait to see what Kev cooks up next.
