It’s officially November and Halloween’s over but the memories are as present as ever, for those that didn’t drink too much at least. Some of you may have no idea what you and your masked self may have done last night. It’s alright though, I’ve got the remedy to at least cure this hangover you’ve got. It’s some new fire, fresh out of the oven. It’s exclusive fire, the type that very few have gotten wind of yet and that’s the best type of fire.
This week it begins with a British emcee, something I’ve become a lot more appreciative of. This new age of British emcees has thinner tongues, and it’s easier for us Americans to understand what’s coming out of their mouths. This guy too, Piers James is a very easy understand emcee and instead of his words scaring away American listeners, his words are gripping. Below is his latest song “80’s Baby”.
HASSAN KHAFFAF got a rare Charles Hamilton feature on this track ‘Devil Date’. The track just all-around feels like a track straight from the vaults from Mr. Hamilton, but Hassan actually produced the song himself. The beat is super fresh, and it is always nice to hear Charles. -malbin
The bass is thumping and high end is just right on this song from Dread. Clearly, he’s the next artist on this week’s Soundcloud Diggin and he’s here for no other reason than because he’s dope. His flow’s clean and the whole sound of this song is clean. The mixer surely did a great job to make this one sound crispy, an aspect of making music that too many artists don’t realize is crucial. A good mix just makes everything from the beat, to the rapper sound better. Without further or due, check out Dread’s new song “The Move” below. It’ll be on his forthcoming (Shouts to ASAP Ferg) EP.
Milwaukee and Montreal were the new hip hop hotbeds in 2015, at least for me and they’re two cities that are going to continue to progress and their artists are going to get more and more attention. Let’s hop in this teleportation device we’ve been gifted and take a trip over to Montreal for a few minute and catch this trio of hip hop kids playing their music from their 90’s Toyota outside the convenience store. Their just rolling down the windows for the first time since the hotbox so the dank’s still strong but some food is necessary right now. Take your focus off their escapades for a minute and just listen to this song they have bumping out of the Toyota, it too is blunted but it’s dope.
Chicago singer CHAI is dropping a joint EP with Elias Abid, & the lead single from the EP dropped this week. After playing that single on Soundcloud, I was put onto what appears to be her first and only solo song ‘Thirst Trap’. This track sounds like something straight off the Soulection Soundcloud page, and that’s a very heavy compliment. The song is super elegant, but as the title shows, it gets a pretty raunchy at the end with a slight switch up of the bridge of PARTYNEXTDOOR‘s ‘Wus Good/Curious’.-malbin
