9. Childish Gambino – Because The Internet

Childish Gambino Because The Internet

Released under mc DJ Recording via Glassnote Entertainment Group (Buy Here)

If you listened to Childish Gambino’s sophomore album Because The Internet without watching the Clapping For All Wrong Reasons short-film and reading the script on his website, well, you kind of haven’t even listened to the album. Donald created a damn-near new world with this album, and on the surface you may be a little confused by some of the topics on there, so that’s why watching that video and reading the script is MANDATORY for full enjoyment of the album. It really sucks reviewing this album because I don’t want to ruin the script for you guys. As much as I shouldn’t say this, but man, I hope Childish Gambino never gets happy while he’s in album mode ever again. These tracks just hit you right in the feels, and man you can tell Gambino was not in a great place. The production on the album is pretty spectacular; Gambino produced all but one interlude with co-production help from Ludwig and Stefan Ponce. While only Jhene Aiko, Chance The Rapper, and Azealia Banks were credited features, Problem, Miguel, Kilo Kish, Thundercat, Mystikal, and Lloyd all make un-credited vocal contributions.

The only reason the album is at nine is really because this album made me not want to hear Childish Gambino rap ever again. His singing accompanied by his miraculous song-writing is pretty close to perfection. Don’t get confused, his rapping was not THAT bad on this album, but his singing really was that GOOD. Not to mention, I am salty as hell Gambino has not liberated the full version of ‘Oakland’ by Lloyd, ’cause my body NEEDS that.
