18. Stalley – Ohio
It has been a long time coming for Stalley, but in 2014 the Ohio rapper was finally able to release his debut-major label album. Ohio had Stalley linking back up with Rashad, who is somehow one of the most underrated producers in the game. In the ambitious, cohesive project, Stalley doesn’t force out any songs, & he created a possible radio-single in the nasally ‘One More Shot’ with his boss Rick Ross & August Alsina. With a heavy ‘G-Funk’ sound, blaring drums from Rashad, & a ton of car references, this is an album that is just dying to get played at high volumes in a motor vehicle.
17. IamSu – Sincerely Yours
IamSu impressively helped revive the Bay Area music scene over the past few years, but he took his first step to making a name for himself nationally by releasing his first major distributed album, Sincerely Yours. The album featured a much different sound than we have come accustomed to hearing, as Suzy decided to mellow down his sound and reflect on his life more. The new mellow sound mixed in with organic radio singles ‘I Love My Squad’ & ‘Only That Real’ make for a deadly combination, & hopefully this new criss-cross of sound is a regular staple in the rest of IamSu‘s future catalog.
