Rapping and playing basketball are the two most popular and glorified ways for inner city kids to make a new life for themselves and make it out of the hood. It’s always been a thing in rap music but especially with Sheck Wes‘s latest rise, the two have been intertwined as a way to market new artists more than ever. Rappers like Stalley and Dave East were both decently big time college basketball players and it’s a well known fact about them but it still wasn’t apart of the marketing campaign like it has been for Harlem’s Sheck Wes and now fellow Harlem rapper TJ Porter. Both of them being very good high school basketball players in New York, but turning their focus more onto fashion and music. TJ inked a deal this year with Def Jam after his music started to create some buzz and now TJ releases his first single under Def Jam. He’s another disciple of A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, with a similar melodic type of flow but he’s definitely still got sound of his own. Go ahead and peep that and the new music video up above.
