Brooklyn native and ever slept-on Kota the Friend returns with his second full length album, FOTO. The 19 track project is rooted in all of Kota’s strengths with impeccable storytelling, in the pocket bars, and hyper awareness. Never stretching himself too thin, Kota knows how to speak on his personal story in depth while still making a larger statement on gentrification and displacement. The opening track, which features a heavenly vocal sample from fellow New Yorker, Isa Reyes, is an immediate and direct message about not taking the place that we call home for granted. With this record, Kota highlights his ability to make music in a fearlessly independent matter by using all his own production and recruiting very few features (only Saba and frequent collaborator Hello Oshay). Kota’s sophomore release does not disappoint so check it out below!
