With big releases coming from Slowthai and Tyler the Creator on the same day, it was a hefty weekend for alternative music in general but Jean Dawson quietly just put out one of the better records I’ve heard all year. The San Diego multi-faceted artist introduces himself in a major way with a ridiculously well-written and eerily catchy debut record. Supported by the nostalgic guitar riffs of producer Lecx Stacey, Dawson is carving out an appealing no-genre lane for himself and audiences are definitely going to start taking notice. There’s an inherent honesty and no-strings-attached attitude to Jean’s song structures and writing that ultimately makes for quite mature and refreshing music. Definitely take a listen to Jean Dawson‘s debut below!
