Over the last couple years I feel like the music space has been flooded with bedroom pop type of acts. There’s just such an abundance of them and so many playlist opportunities out there for them to help establish a name, but that’s just made it tougher to comb through the acts that could truly stand the test of time and break through. That’s where Chicago’s Huron John comes in. It’s his production style especially, that gives some nods to what Tyler The Creator paved but he uses some of those quirky techniques and puts them to use in his own wavy sound. “Friendzone” was the funky song that hooked me but he’s surely got a lot of new gas to come this year, which includes his brand new single “Maple Syrup Tears”. The chords on this one are gorgeous but it’s the complex vocal layering that keeps me interested and on my toes from start to finish. Definitely going to be running this one back a lot, take a listen below.
