Brockton, Massachusetts has become a musical hotbed over the last year and some change, and to add to the 2020 mix is Van Buren Record’s Meech with his second EP of the year, titled “Barriers to Knowing.” The six song EP finds Meech in a wild rap pocket, full of real life storytelling and wordplay joined in part by his frequent Van Buren Records teammates in Andrew Regis, Lord Felix, Saint Lyor, and Vasant.
“Barriers to Knowing” follows up his other four-track offering of “I’ll Be Back Soon, I Promise,” following a similar theme of rap bars and self reflection of life through the eyes of Meech. Soulful, large beats play a perfect backdrop for Meech’s smoothly polished flow, reminiscent of some of the current greats like Isaiah Rashad and Saba. The EP is highlighted by “Breaking Point,” which finds Meech bouncing through flows and vocal inflection with ease. Soul oozes through the EP’s production and rap stylings, equipped with a saxophone solo to boot
“Barriers to Knowing” certainly sets a strong trajectory for Meech into 2021, and he certainly shares the success with his Van Buren family, who have consistently shown that a rising tide raises all ships through their roster.
