Disclaimer: I’ve probably gone through over 800 pitches since embarking on my music-discovery-blog journey earlier this year, but none have immediately given me goosebumps like AVIV’s newest single “Black Coffee”. Following up her last release “Lonely Bitch”, AVIV returns to fans with a banger that combines saccharine sentimentality with her signature take on bedroom pop. Carefree guitar chords flow between string samples and punchy electro-pop percussion to serve as the foundation on which AVIV recounts a relationship gone sour. It’s clever, it’s carefree, and it almost upsets me at how effortlessly AVIV makes music seem. From the early sounds of birds singing and harpsichord arpeggios to the final moments of her romantic ruminations, AVIV delivers a stunning and dulcet performance that few others could dream of emulating. I’m not exaggerating, take a listen and you’ll see that AVIV did not come to play on her vintage-flavored “Black Coffee”. This is sure to be a hit, so here’s the chance to claim your “I was here early” ticket.
