Don’t call it a comeback, call it a new partnership with Field Trip Recordings as Houston rapper HVN returns with “Draco”, his first single of 2021. HVN’s been sparse on music since sparking a quick buzz in 2020, but surely there’s a lot to come as this new year chugs along because the demand is certainly there. Thundering bass signals, mechanical hi-hats and a menacingingly catchy vox stab find their home on “Draco” alongside HVN’s signature laidback delivery and melancholic tone. The visual for “Draco”, directed by Trey Lyons, mirrors this energy with melancholic wilderness shots and scenes of HVN in an ominous dance studio. Whether standing next to bison or ballet dancers, HVN’s new track is a much-needed dose of energy that 2021 has been sorely lacking. With luck, the future will be full of more laid-back and effortlessly polished HVN tracks like this one.
