If this year’s R&B drought has you feeling under the weather, then look no further. Last week Lizzy Small dropped the video for her debut single “Like It Should”, a low-key cut that finds its footing somewhere between bedroom-pop and R&B. This slow and sultry banger sees the LA singer/songwriting romantically ruminating over a mix laden with trap percussion and distorted synth chords. Her vocals are just as pristine as they are effortless, with her hypnotic harmonies instantly turning new listeners into fans alongside her lyricism and songwriting chops. The Parris Calkin-directed video for “Like It Should” works similarly, as Lizzy Small described creating it with a small group of friends and peers “for the sake of the process”. The end result is a spectacular debut from one of the spring’s most promising upcoming pop acts. Though it’s never too late to become a fan of Lizzy Small, there’s no better time than the present.
