I’m always a big fan of finding young, emerging talent because it’s cool to see kids around my age not letting age be a defining factor in their careers. It seems as though us Gen Z-ers have colonized Tik Tok for many different reasons, but my favorite one being to share our art with the world in hopes of gaining a platform. This is how I stumbled upon the 20 year old St. Louis native Jonah Roy, who only recently moved to LA to pursue music head-on.
His teenage indie anthem “Fuck that!” opens with a super catchy synth melody that’s an instant highlight. And all the more impressive, it’s self-produced and self-written. And you get a bit of a glimpse of the bedroom studio that the song was birthed in, with the apt Cult Classic directed visuals.
Jonah has released some other great records, all showcasing his versatility as an artist but Jonah struck gold with “Fuck that!” His music is already really well rounded and it only feels like a matter of time before the indie curators start falling more and more in love with this song and what’s to come next.
