danny orange – way back 2 you

Many know him as a director first, the biggest mover in the Overcast squad, but Danny is seriously a jack of all trades. After racking up over one million Spotify streams on debut song “Expensive,” indie pop singer danny orange is back with another track called “way back 2 you.” The song evokes a familiar feeling instantly, with a whistling melody drawing the listener in. A simple, sticky chorus; “Oh, I’ve been finding my way back to you,” paces the track, which describes an attachment to a girl that danny can’t seem to shake. Instrumentally, the layering of guitars is a clear highlight, with the vocals and melody calling to mind a young Dominic Fike.

One of my favorite parts of “way back 2 you” is the cover art, which features Danny wearing an orange knit hat reminiscent of Finn from Adventure Time. The blip of orange continues the overall “orange” theme present in his past two singles, but on a more subdued level than in previous single “Juice,” which featured a customized “Danny-O” juice box. The new direction makes sense, as “way back 2 you” is our first taste of danny’s forthcoming debut album ”fun while it lasted. Anyone with an affinity for oranges and catchy indie-pop is guaranteed to eat up “way back 2 you.”
