17-year-old wunderkind dyl dion has a new single out called “see me now” and it encapsulates why he’s become a Fashionably Early favorite. The self-produced track is the first 2022 release for the Wilmington, NC native and sees him musing about isolation and feeling overwhelmed. The listener gets some insight into dyl’s psyche here — he seems to want to go out and socialize but sometimes the thought of making plans is a lot. I can see how this would hit home with a lot of Gen-Z kids, especially considering the startling pause on in-person activities brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. For the sake of the song, dyl distills his own coping strategies into a simple line: “I can’t take no more, I just lay on my floor.”
In spite of these personal anxieties, dyl dion has taken the bedroom pop scene by storm, making the cloud-adorned cover of “see me now” quite fitting. While he’s experimented with music since the age of 11, he waited until this past September to drop his debut single “pouring outside.” The patience paid off; the song’s already received over 2 million Spotify streams and each of his follow-up tracks cracked 100K on the platform as well.
With already crazy numbers to his name, including 200K TikTok followers, and admirable consistency in his releases, it won’t be long before dyl is demanding the attention of the industry at large.
