I got the chance to hear Kinrose’s latest single “Profile” a couple of weeks before it dropped. I didn’t think much of it at first, but it grew on me to the point where I couldn’t extract the melody from my head. The song, which the PG County native describes as a DMV love story, marks Kinrose’s first appearance on the Fashionably Early pages.

The neo-soul bounce and textures of the “Profile” beat definitely catch the ear the second you press play. But make sure you don’t lose sight of Kinrose’s wordplay on here. His lighthearted lyrics call to mind Tobi Lou or Berhana. I could see people writing off some of the bars on this record as a bit corny or too reliant on references, but there’s no denying that “she need Rose on the team like Thibodeau,” is a phenomenal way to express that a girl is into you. Not only is the line fire, but it’s accurate too — Tom Thibodeau has coached Derrick Rose on the Bulls, Knicks and Timberwolves.

Make sure to give “Profile” a spin, check out the accompanying visual and keep an eye out for Kinrose’s upcoming EP “Easygrowing” set to drop March 21!
