Omni ! feels like a shaken-up can of soda: there’s a lot of energy inside and when the top is opened, everyone will hear it. The three-piece boyband from Georgia consists of JoVaughn Simmons, J’aime and Dawvro and cites BROCKHAMPTON as their primary influence. Omni ! made a statement in the underground last October, releasing a bass-and-808-heavy project called DOPEBOYS with zero singles. DOPEBOYS was accompanied by intriguing, high-quality visuals and the unmistakable image of JoVaughn in a ski mask and gold teeth, which graces the project’s cover.
Since DOPEBOYS, Omni ! has opened for Barely Legal in Florida, performed in LA and signed to Active Management, which represents heavy hitters like 24kGoldn, Run The Jewels and Leikeli47. But they still remain something of a hidden gem, hovering around 1K Spotify monthly listeners.
New single POP! could change all of that. Omni ! released the music video one week before the song, and it picked up over 1,000 views within 24 hours. Highlights from the vid include a scene where JoVaughn raps to the camera in a close-up while an unsuspecting guy gets beaten up in the background and Dawvro pulling a squirt gun out of his pocket as the hook goes, “love me when my n****s pop.” It’s a confident statement, preemptively encouraging bandwagoners to hop on once the group “pops.” That big break may not be far off.
