Finding a great debut song is one of the most exciting feelings that any music writer can have, and this is definitely one I’m ecstatic about. Introducing Aidan – you might already remember him from TikTok as that alternative r&b cover singer – ‘bonjour aidan’. Under that moniker, he was able to build industry buzz for himself at multiple different points throughout the past year with his singing. And while he isn’t quite the biggest name on your for you page, he could definitely make the argument for being the most talented.
His new song “We Hug, We Sway” definitely pays respect to clear inspirations like Frank Ocean and Steve Lacy; however, at the same time, you can hear a certain yearning to readily avoid classification and surface-level labels. The best example of which being the minute-long outro that feels like a perfect baby fused between The Weeknd’s Trilogy and Kanye’s MBDTF.
Released alongside a beautifully shot music video, Aidan’s visuals further enhance the world created by the song. On camera, his aesthetic feels natural and unique, and it’s clear that he has a look of a star. Whether that be sooner or later is up for debate, but definitely know that Aidan is for sure on his way.
