Meduulla
LIMBO

I’ll admit it, it had been a while since I directly purchased a song from an artist on Bandcamp. But when the opportunity came up to listen to the full version of “LIMBO,” a new jam from UK rapper Meduulla, I had to go for it.

I came across the Manchester-based artist on TikTok last week courtesy of this video, which has garnered nearly 100K likes on the platform. Over a jazz-hop beat from The Mouse Outfit, Meduulla begins the snippet with the lines: “He said he’ll meet me by the Zambezi, cat’s got my mother tongue, speaking isn’t easy.” These lyrics capture her essence well, speaking to her family’s difficulties learning English as an immigrant from Zimbabwe while looking back to her origins with a reference to the Zambezi River in Africa.

“LIMBO” may be Meduulla’s breakout hit, but she’s built a strong catalog & foundation in the UK for the new fans. Her most recent single “Life’s Like a Box of Chocolates,” is her most popular, having accumulated 90K streams on Spotify. Elsewhere, “Mish Muulla” is a declaration of her arrival into the rap game over a triumphant horn-based beat, where she drops clever lines like “birthing all these rappers, they’ll be calling me the doula/‘duulla (peep the double meaning!).” She’s supplemented this with performances, local media love and even an appearance on Series 3 of BBC’s “The Rap Game”. “LIMBO” is out everywhere July 25. Eager fans can buy the track HERE & presave it HERE.
