IfSoWhatFor
Missed My Time

There’s a new DJ duo on the block and if you’re a fan of artists like Rufus du Sol, Elderbrook, and RY X, you’ll want to know about this one. IfSoWhatFor’s first single, Missed My Time, is ripe with contradictions; the sort of contradictions dance music should have. The melodic structure of a pop song against the bones of a house track; the stagnation of unrequited love against the impetus to move and dance; tension and release.

Its creators, Jamis DeKay and Nathan Koenig, set out to make house music with the nuance and depth it deserves, and their debut track indisputably proves their ability to do so. DeKay writes and Koenig produces, but they often spill over into the other’s practice.

Along with the song’s release is a CGI video, which feels like a visual exploration of the liminal spaces the song exists in. It’s pretty trippy, and definitely the best way to experience the song. You can check it out here:

The devotion to building out the world of IfSoWhatFor is palpable, with an official music video for Missed My Time coming out on October 15th as well. There’s a lot more coming from these two, and we’ll certainly be watching.
