In a time where the music industry is so honed on virality, it’s imperative that we support talent like this once it comes across our radar. And with the sheer volume of new releases coming out, it’s easy for things to slip through the cracks that don’t get blessed for the algorithm. That is definitely the case for Sophye Soliveau, who released her song “Leave” back in March. Over the weekend, I stumbled upon the music video for the song and I was left floored. There’s hints of 90s soul with more modern, jazzy elements in the harp-led composition, with Sophye did herself. The vocal performance builds and builds throughout the song until the chill inducing ending, which will stop you in your tracks. Everything about the song is amplified by the beautiful cinematography in the music video.

There’s not a ton of information that I could find on Sophye. Most of the information is in French, but it appears that’s she based in France, and also plays in a duo, trio, and the group Ábàjade. She released an album Initiation shortly after the release of “Leave”, so be sure to dig into that and be on the lookout for whatever is to come for this one of one artist.
