Calling all hip-hop heads and lovers of lyricism, there’s a new MC on the block and his name is Colin!. If you’ve been craving that underground, old school hip-hop sound then look no further. His latest EP The VISION just dropped and it’s full of influences from artists like Tyler The Creator, Stevie Wonder, and Lauryn Hill. The EP starts out with a soulful and beautiful vocal harmonization between Colin! and his mother, who notably was apart of the gospel group Virtue. This is then juxtaposed by the high energy of the second track, “TOOYUNG,” which samples Jamiroquai’s track Too Young To Die off their 1993 album Emergency on Planet Earth. This track also got some traction online due to the awesome sample, and of course colin!’s impressive lyrical flow.
I won’t spoil the rest of the project for you, but it’s definitely worth the listen. It’s a really digestible and quick EP that showcases just a fraction what Colin! is capable of. Being only 17 years old, Colin! outshines artists that are already 10 years into their professional careers. It’s only a matter of time before artist and producers alike are hitting him up to work with him.
