Toronto is usually stealing the shine of Canada’s R&B scene but there’s been some absolute gems to come out of the snowy city of Edmonton as well. FRVRFRIDAY & Avenoir most notably and next up in that lineage is surely set to be Jerumi.

In his third release, Jerumi creates a ‘dream-like’ state with his single “Some Nights”. A guitar and soft chorus, “Some Nights” is a lullaby that pairs simple broken chords with Jerumi’s soft yet resonating voice. With influences of artist such as Choker and Daniel Caesar; Jerumi creates his own sound, while paying homage to Alt. R&B icons. “Some Nights” is the perfect mixture of a raw sound with mature production. Close you eyes, lie down and let the melody wash over you. Jerumi puts his audience in a trance, an echo-chamber of tranquility , “Some Nights” is the perfect song after a hard days work.

With under 20k monthly listeners and such few releases, Jerumi’s small discography doesn’t disappoint or bore. Constant motifs of reverb and guitar stand strong in his work, listeners know what they are are getting themselves into when pressing play. But that said, Jerumi excels with these ideas, flowing freely in his created niche, allowing creativity to really take control in such a simple composition. I can’t wait for what’s next, with just three releases and each one showing success, Jerumi is only starting to blossom.
