When an artist is able to handle their own production at this level, it’s always exciting to see. It’s hard to pin Tommy Fleece’s sound down into one genre, and “Dunce” shows this off in the best way possible. The 18-year-old Detroit native litters the production with stuttering glitches and staticky synths, but “Dunce” still manages to find its sound in a pop space fueled by a damn catchy hook. Comparable to Jean Dawson, Tommy is not afraid to push boundaries, and I am excited to see this brand of ultramodern anti-pop flourish. Go stuff “Dunce” in your ears and keep up with Tommy for new releases.
