There’s a rumor going around that Summer 2022 will be the rebirth of Summer 2016. Clubs are back open, masks are being thrown away, mother nature is about to bless us with some nice weather, and most importantly, people are dancing. And while we wait for Calvin Harris to drop the much anticipated Volume 2 of Funk Wav Bounces, three 21 year old students at the University of Pennsylvania delivered a heater of a track that should not be slept on, some might even say song of the summer, “GASLIGHT”.
Now more than ever, artists are using TikTok as a place to put song ideas into the world to see initial reactions before continuing with production, whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing, I’ll let you decide. However, for artist INJI, songwriter Hei$t, and producer Grafik, after one video raked in more than 2 million views, comments from Tai Verdes, Hailey Knox, and more, this TikTok clip has turned into INJI’s debut single, and we all couldn’t be happier.
The only way to put it is it’s a fun song, INJI even does one verse in a British accent because why not, and of course, it works. The concept is satirical, even funny, but all the while catchy. INJI, Hei$t and Grafik have an undeniable chemistry and we’re already waiting on what their team can accomplish next. When you’re in the club this summer, keep your ears open for INJI, and listen when she tells you, “Gaslight, gatekeep, call his new bitch mainstream.”
