The alternative R&B space is absolutely burgeoning with talent, and I feel like I’m discovering new artists almost everyday in the space. My latest discovery is Merges, although she’s more of a reemerging artist instead of a brand new artist. If you go down memory lane through your Soundcloud likes, there’s a chance you may stumble upon a few songs from Merges. Over the past five years, she hasn’t released a song but she’s racked up millions of streams from her past material. She’s returning from a multi-year hiatus; fresh with a new sugary sound as she showcases on her stunning new song “cool”. The song has a very minimal soundscape, with just some light drums and piano, and her pitched vocals really cut through to grab you from the first word.
